AUF DIE DAUER HILFT NUR POWER!
research & exhibition project

The exhibition AUF DIE DAUER HILFT NUR POWER! ( IN THE LONG RUN, ONLY POWER HELPS!) on view at the Querungen platform of the Württembergischer Kunstverein was conveived in dialogue with the exhibition DEFIANT MUSES. DELPHINE SEYRIG AND THE FEMINIST VIDEO COLLECTIVES OF 1970S AND 1980S FRANCE.
It goes on a foray through the history/ies of the feminist resistance that also formed in this region with the beginning of the New Women’s and Lesbian Movements in the 1970s. Based on various materials and media, a cross-section of feminist activism in the federal state Baden-Württemberg (Germany) is made visible and put up for discussion in accompanying events.

IN/VISIBLE
installation
5 blackboards with chalk drawings, map

IN/VISIBLE  tells the history of the department store "Kaufhaus Schocken" in Stuttgart, designed and built by Erich Mendelsohn on behalf of Salman Schocken, openend in 1928 and demolished in 1960 by the city of Stuttgart. The map on the wall which was available for the visitors shows the various linkages of individuals connected directly or indirectly to the history of Kaufhaus Schocken as for example Albert Speer.

DER GARTEN DES HERRN S. / THE GARDEN OF MR. S.
installation, blackboard with chalk drawing

developed specifically for the exhibition 50 YEARS AFTER 50 YEARS OF THE BAUHAUS 1968, Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart

The installation is made in remembrance of all the victims of forced labor as a result of the activities of Albert Speer, Hitler's architect and Minister of Armaments and War Production, who was not sentenced to death in the Nuernberg trial but only detained for 20 years in the prison of Spandau. Here he even got the permission to install a "park" in the courtyard.

RAUMSTRUKTUR
together with Ute Meta Bauer

Raumstruktur (engl. Spatial Structure) was created for the exhibition WHEN TEKKNO TURNS TO SOUND OF POETRY (Shedhalle Zurich, 1994; Kunstwerke Berlin, 1995). Formally, it goes back to Ray and Charles Eames’s infinitely variable Computer House of Cards, that they had developed as a promotional gift for IBM’s exhibit at the World Expo in Osaka in 1970 and earlier as a children's play.
We use the Eames slotted card system to rearrange different picture and text materials from the 1970s and, by so doing, to spotlight the polarity and the relationships between the belief in progress and the various counter-movements of this decade. The three-dimensional arrangement and the optical connection between fields not usually perceived together enable a reflective view of the 1970s.

Idea und conception by Hans D. Christ, Yvonne P. Doderer, Iris Dressler, Stephan Köperl, Sylvia Winkler

The exhibition THE ART OF NOT GOVERNED LIKE THAT, refering in its title to Michel Foucualt, is an independent project while simultaneously comprising part of the exhibition RE-DESIGNING THE EAST. POLITICAL DESIGN IN ASIA AND EUROPE by Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart. The section ties in with the controversy surrounding the urban development and transport project Stuttgart 21 and heightens reflection thereupon against the background of economic, political, social, and cultural processes of transformation that have been developing in recent decades.

With contributions by Yvonne P. Doderer, Stephan Köperl, Sylvia Winkler and others.
